Earlier this week, the results of a New York State attorney general’s office investigation into store-brand supplements at four major retailers were released–and they aren’t encouraging for consumers. The investigation found that many of the dietary supplements sold by GNC, Wal-Mart, Target, and Walgreens contained potential allergens not listed on their labels–and not necessarily the herbal ingredients they purported to contain.
How were they tested?
The products were tested with DNA barcoding, which identifies the individual ingredients in the supplement. The AG tested 24 different products claiming to contain seven different kinds of herbs, and found that all but five contained either unrecognizable DNA or a plant that was not what was claimed on the label. Additionally, five had wheat and two had beans–both potential allergens–despite not being listed on the labels.
The news is understandably of concern to consumers who purchase these and other supplements. The attorney general’s office sent letters to the four retailers demanding that certain supplements be removed from store shelves–but what about other states and other retailers or brands?
What about VitaMe’s products?
The supplements sold by VitaMe are pharmaceutical grade, produced in the United States, and guaranteed to be fresh. The facility where VitaMe’s supplements are made is allergen free, and their ingredients are free of wheat, gluten, corn protein, yeast, soy protein, dairy products, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, preservatives, and artificial colors and sweeteners.
All the raw materials used in VitaMe vitamins are tested for identity when they arrive at the production facility–that means confirming they are what they claim to be on their labels. In doing this testing, VitaMe knows that the supplements contain what they should, which is important for both safety and efficacy.
As well, before the final product is distributed to customers, it’s checked to confirm that it contains 100 percent of the amount of each active ingredient listed on the label, along with other testing to ensure the quality and safety of the supplements. The testing done for VitaMe’s supplements goes beyond the minimum requirements set by the FDA in the United States–well beyond the norm for the industry.
And finally, VitaMe supplements contain the most bio-available form of each of the supplements, ensuring that your body can make the best use of them–the aim is safe and effective.
At VitaMe we guarantee safe and accurate supplementations. Here’s to your health.
