Barbara, a 53-year-old executive assistant in San Francisco, is taking the VitaMe Challenge. Between June and August, she’ll be sharing her story here on our blog as she takes her custom supplements every day, while trying to cut sugar and re-start her yoga practice.
I’m an introvert. The more I can do alone, the better. You won’t ever find me in a gym – but you will find me on a yoga mat in my own house!
However, I am presently taking a life coaching certification program and part of that program is having bi-weekly calls with my team of four other women. In addition to practicing coaching on each other, we are also there to bear witness to the trials and tribulations our fellow team members are experiencing in their lives.
We devote a few minutes on each call to personal check-ins – what is going right (or not) in our lives. Knowing that I have to report in to my team every two weeks really does help. It isn’t that they are going to chastise me or get mad; that’s not what they are there for.
But the accountability factor is much greater. For example, it’s one thing for me to wake up and say, “Today I’m going to eat right.” It’s a whole other story knowing I have to disclose to others whether or not that happened. They are, in a way, my own personal pep squad, when all I want to do is beat myself up for not being “perfect.”
So, depsite my usual lack of team spirit, I have to admit that my teammates do help. Many times, I come away with an entirely new perspective, something which is sometimes difficult to do on my own. And a new perspective is always a good thing. It takes away the stress of thinking I need to do everything myself.
With regard to my VitaMe regimen, I am loving it. My body has adapted to the fish oil capsules and I’m not burping as much as I was in the beginning and I don’t forget to take the vitamins anymore. I definitely have more energy than when I started the Challenge, which I attribute to the cumulative effect of the vitamins, watching my food intake in both quality and quantity, and increasing the amount of exercise I get. I’m still not getting very much exercise, though, honestly. My schedule is completely packed and I have little to no extra time right now.
All in all, I am very happy with the progress I have made since beginning the VitaMe Challenge and look forward to keeping it going!
